HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY BOOP!!
Betty Boop, the much beloved sexy animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer, made her first appearance on August 9, 1930 as an anthropomorphic French poodle with long floppy ears and great legs in the cartoon Dizzy Dishes. Fleischer finalized Betty Boop as a human character in the cartoon Any Rags (1932) with her floppy poodle ears becoming hoop earrings and her black poodle nose a girl’s button-like nose.
Clara Bow is often credited as being the model for Boop but Betty Boop’s voice and appearance actually began as a caricature of the popular 1920’s singer Helen Kane.
While known for appearing in more than one hundred cartoons, Betty Boop has also appeared in two comic strips, a radio show, and two network animated musical specials.

Women dressed as geisha in Kyoto, Japan. They are wearing traditional kimonos and geta. Geisha (芸者) are traditional Japanese artist-entertainers. Geisha were very common in the 18th and 19th centuries, and are still in existence today, although their numbers are dwindling. The geisha tradition evolved from the taikomochi or hōkan, similar to court jesters. Geisha were traditionally trained from young childhood although modern geisha begin their training, which remains extremely long and difficult, at much older age.
